Summary of the New Ordinance for Businesses in the Town of Davie, FL
- Effective 2/06/2009
The latest ordinance (Section #7-51) mentions specific business settings that must partake in a safety program aimed at minimizing the number of deaths and/or longterm
disabilities associated with sudden cardiac arrest through the acquisition of an AED(s).
Per recent ordinance (Section #7-51), some of these business settings include:
• Fitness centers, gymnasiums, and indoor recreational centers in excess of 1,500 square feet
• Theaters, restaurants, drinking establishments, with a maximum capacity of 100 or greater
• Office buildings with a square footage greater than 20,000 square feet
• Commercial and retail spaced with a square footage greater than 35,000 square feet
• All hotels and motels
• Assisted Living Facilities as defined by Section 400.402, Florida Statue as amended from time to time
• All Dental offices in accordance with Florida Administrative Code 64B5-17.015
The ordinance also highlights installation and operational procedures, requirements, exceptions, and penalties due to negligence that apply to businesses meeting the
criteria described above.
According to the American Heart Association, automated external defibrillators (AED) have been proven to be safe and highly effective when used during sudden
cardiac arrest. Although individuals are able to use an AED with minimal training, it is recommended that individuals be trained every two years to respond to
emergencies with the confidence needed to save lives. (Please speak to an account executive to address any common misconceptions regarding AED use.)
